Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It's like being force fed hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.

“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
