Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
