The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
