The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
