That Gruesome Animated Film Ending That Haunts Audiences
Out of all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I’ve personally viewed, nothing has lingered in my mind quite like the terror-laced conclusion of a explicitly bloody as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a dark, melancholy and frequently brutal universe with a few small , forlorn glimmers of hope.
While Unicorn Wars feels like it originated from an impulse to push the medium further, the director clarified that it was rather a try to communicate a global, cross-cultural theme about “the common origin of each battle.”
That idea is expressed via a group of brightly hued teddy bears , openly based on a well-known line of lovable figures.
Maturing in a culture built around aggression and the war machine, many of these creatures are obsessed with killing the mythical beasts, thanks to a sacred text which states the bears they were once masters of the forest, before these creatures expelled them.
Others have not completely fallen for the propaganda, , choose to try out narcotics or fornicate in the woods.
In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these bright beings show genitals and definite urges.
For a particular particularly cruel, skeptical animal, Bluey, the conflict against unicorns becomes a path to power — and especially to supremacy over his gentler, more compassionate sibling the character Tubby.
This bear acts as a tormentor and an apparent psychopath , and as fear overcomes his unit and kills his comrades sequentially, he takes progressively influence personally, through ever more bloody, harmful methods.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, as an expanding, harmful creature in their forest.
“In the early stages, it seems like a humorous movie,” the director stated. “Yet it evolves into a more serious and sad film. And by the end, it transforms into a scary feature.”
Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like among the playful films by a legendary animator, that uncover a naughty glee in allowing animated figures curse, engage in violence, or sex each other up.
Afterward it turns into closer to a darker film from the same director, with increasingly visual gore , a noticeable link to the actual tragedy of war.
Ultimately, it’s a complete theatrical horror bloodbath.
The fear that makes the film a perfect Halloween viewing begins well before than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted gorehounds, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who desire to watch something they have not watched previously, and are able to withstand a story that pulls no restraint.
See it with the lights off without any distractions, and the finale will dig under your skin and linger.
