Iran is willing to restart nuclear discussions with Washington as long as it is treated with "dignity" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has declared.

Abbas Araghchi stated solely negotiations worked, and disclosed fresh requests had been made by go-betweens to restart negotiations with the American leadership. He claimed Iran did not have secret atomic facilities, and Tehran could not yet authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to visit bombed nuclear sites for security reasons.

Walking a Difficult Course

Araghchi is walking a complex route since Iran does not want be perceived to be operating from a stance of vulnerability, and he emphatically stated that Iran had come out stronger defensively and psychologically from the joint assault on its enrichment centers in June.

Previous Negotiations Abruptly Terminated

The previous five rounds of negotiations between the US and Iran were ended suddenly and hostile conclusion on 12 June when the Israeli government, with Washington's assistance, struck Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that concluded with the US president asserting the locations had been obliterated. Afterward, EU nations employed their authority to reinstate UN-wide sanctions, but Iran insists they have not had a major impact.

Perfect Agreement Proposed

Iranian officials said they felt they had attained a "perfect agreement" to the nuclear fuel concern in earlier negotiations, when it was settled an domestic cooperative with American involvement could enrich uranium. Each party would have been able to declare success since domestic enrichment would have remained and the US could be confident that Iran's atomic project was exclusively peaceful.

It had not been settled in the talks that Washington's technical specialists could operate within Iranian territory, but that was a logical implication of the consortium proposal. Repair and Recovery
