Supporters Demand Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are calling for that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was set to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram account features recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last year.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over the Star's Well-being
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote another message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had assembled in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it began.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Academy Award nods, securing a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
