Los Angeles Battles Unprecedented High Temperatures Just One Week After Major Winter Storm.
After enduring significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting abnormally hot conditions for the end of February.
All-Time High Heat
On Friday midday, the thermometer reached ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, as reported by meteorologists. This breaks the prior high for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was established in the previous year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were noted on forecast charts for the region.
Safety Advisories
Authorities issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.
A Dramatic Reversal
This sharp rise in mercury follows closely after a powerful winter storm that pummeled the region recently. That system unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to the mountains, causing flash flood warnings for millions residents.
Unfortunately, the conditions also triggered a deadly avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead some relief will arrive. Temperatures were expected to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by late Friday.
Other locales that hit the 90-degree mark featured Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Elsewhere, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were forecast to reach the high eighties.
For the weekend, central LA can expect temperatures in the 80s, with mid-70s temperatures on tap for the following week.
