Anthony Joshua repeated his much-discussed remarks about wanting to “kill” his opponent during a media gathering in Miami on midweek.

The remarks were originally stated on Tuesday when Joshua was questioned if he would hold back against the social media star, replying that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

Saturday's bout against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has drawn criticism over safety concerns and the size difference between the two athletes.

Ex- world heavyweight champion The Gypsy King called Anthony Joshua a “disgrace” for his inflammatory comments.

But the 36-year-old fighter, defended his position: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I understand many people don't understand it but this is what my job is. I love what I do. The outcome, happens - provided that my hand is raised, that's what's crucial, with all due respect.”

He stated, “That's just the mentality we have to have as warriors. I don't know if other fighters think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more reserved. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a dangerous thing. Everything can happen.”

“You wish your adversary leaves the ring safely, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Paul's Fiery Response

Paul, a massive underdog in the heavyweight contest as a natural cruiserweight, was equally combative in his retort.

“This is a contemporary gladiator sport,” Paul said. “I'm ready. I want his hardest punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all said and done. Let's kill each other.”

Joshua will face his opponent, 28, at Florida's arena in a fight many see as a glaring mismatch, with some suggesting it should have been sanctioned as an exhibition bout.

The official fight will be contested over 8 3-minute rounds using standard ten-ounce gloves, with a specified weight limit for Joshua.

Despite the graphic language used, Joshua said he has been “brought in to save” the sport of boxing.
