Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. And again, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities shared security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
