Former Physician Charged with Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have stated that a former doctor has been charged with performing assaults involving 38 victims who were patients.

The Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

The charges follow what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

List of Charges

Prosecutors outline the 45 charges include:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.

Police have asked individuals with information to contact the investigating team.
