Brian Eno Urges Support to Propel Together for Palestine Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign seeks to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the performance was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The diverse array of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of producers and composers. The track showcases a fusion of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have emphasized that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a figure explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was described as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
