American performer Pat Finn, who appeared in beloved TV shows like Friends, Seinfeld and The Middle, has died aged 60.

The skilled improv artist succumbed at his home in Los Angeles recently having undergone treatment for cancer since 2022, according to media reports.

"Pat considered no one a stranger - solely future friends he hadn't encountered," his family shared in a statement.

They continued that he had "embraced life completely - with happiness and energy".

An Extensive TV Career

His debut TV appearance was in the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he appeared as the titular character's brother.

He was also seen in a recurring role on "Murphy Brown" between 1995 and 1997.

He appeared as a party host named Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in the late 90s, depicting a party host known to delegate tedious tasks to his guests.

Throughout the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on several popular shows, like:

  • King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

Finn was perhaps best known for his portrayal of Bill Norwood in The Middle, starring in eight seasons over nearly a decade.

His work in movies include It's Complicated (2009) and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

A Life in Improv

Away from his acting parts, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was a faculty member.

He was a member of a comedy group of six known as Beer Shark Mice.

"Finn coached, befriended and mentored countless students during his career and you'd be hard-pressed to find a person anyplace who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

In a tribute, peer Richard Kind remarked there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, making those around him better and funnier. An excellent dad and person," he posted publicly.

Finn is remembered by his partner Donna, his three kids, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
