Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his future after another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He stated, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
